Bannock

This is an old camp staple. It is quick to prepare and can be cooked in a skillet, Dutch oven or on a green stick over an open fire. The dry ingredients are best mixed ahead of time in a Zip-Lock bag. Add water when you are ready to cook and use the bag to mix it all up, saving messy hands and clean up time.

Instructions
Method One
  1. Stir in the dry ingredients into a bowl.
  2. Add water slowly until you reach a bread dough consistency.
  3. Pat dough into a flat circle about 1/2 inch thick.
  4. Place into a heated oiled pan (cast iron works great for this).
  5. Flip once and cook until dry in center and golden brown on both sides.
Method Two
  1. Put dry ingredients into a zip lock bag.
  2. Add water slowly.
  3. Close the zip lock bag, removing most of the air.
  4. Knead the bag until you have a bread dough consistency.
  5. Remove the dough from the bag and roll it into a rope about an inch in diameter.
  6. Wrap the dough around a green stick.
  7. Roast over an open fire, being sure to turn it constantly to cook evenly on all sides.
