bambi’s loss is our gain

My buddy Dan came through for me again. His brother owns an exotic game ranch, so he thought I could use some antlers for making knife handles. He brought back a dozen Axis sheds for me to start with and said he would get more when he goes back next month. The picture is a representation of the selection I have.

Thanks to Dan’s goodwill, I’ve started on two small utility knives that I’ll to put in the camper for use as steak knives when we are out and about. Both have hidden brass pins holding the scales and are held together with a 5,000 pound epoxy. Thanks to my new Ryobi belt sander, they should be finished by the end of the week (in between the honey-do’s).

IMG 0832I just completed a belt knife based on the Russell Green River camp knife. The handle is walnut with 5/32″ brass pins. All that is left to be done is to fill a small gap on the scale, buff the blade and then make a leather sheath for it. That should also be done by the end of the week.

I’ll post pictures of the completed projects when I’m done. I will also have a couple of Scandinavian blades I purchased. I intend to use the atler on those, too. Ain’t Leo says I already have too many knives so she wants me to sell some of them when we go camping. I’ll think about it, but I don’t think a many can have too many knives any more than a woman can have too many shoes.
