2011 houston rv show

We spent a few hours yesterday roaming Reliant Hall looking at the new RVs on display. I noticed three trends with the displays.

  1. The huge Class A units were a larger presence than last year. Seems the “to hell with the money, I want it big” crowd is really being catered to.
  2. Bumper pull and fifth wheel rigs jumped on the lightweight bandwagon, although I had a hard time reconciling “lightweight” to some of the specs posted on the units. One dealer had units plastered with posters that said, “I’m half-ton towable.” The 10,000 pound specs made me lift an eyebrow.
  3. The smaller < 20 foot rigs had a better representation this year. I’m just disappointed that the Forest River R-Pod was not there, especially after our dealer said he would be.

The only downside of the show was that Ain’t Leo wants to trade the R-Pod for a Thor Zinger 23FB. I guess we will be going out to the dealer tomorrow to have a look at inventory. I’ll keep you posted on the upcoming shopping spree.

IMG_0229This is the Visa unit that BillyBob was telling us about during our last roundup. It’s a nice rig and really lightweight, but Ain’t Leo likes the Zinger better.

The picture on the right shows Ain’t Leo checking out the Zinger. We like the rig, it’ll tow easily with our F-150 and it has more room than our current trailer. If we decided to trade I’ll miss our screen room, but it’ll be a small trade-off.
