something fishy in eisenhower

IMG_0186Lil Harry and I went were searching for a place to record some videos for the site. We decided on one of our county parks about an hour from the house. Conditions were less than ideal with high winds wreaking havoc on the audio, so we packed it in for the day. As luck would have it we took the turn for Eisenhower Park at the last minute and I’m glad we did.

We encountered a minor traffic jam as we entered the park. Texas Parks and Wildlife Department was stocking the lake and all of the curious park goers were gathered around to watch.  I couldn’t blame them. It was exciting to see 3500 rainbow trout released into a local pond.

IMG_0191Out of the twenty or so fishermen we saw, only one seemed to have the secret lure. He was the only one hauling them in. The state has a daily limit of five with no size restrictions, so this guy would haul one in, eyeball it and either toss it back or put it in his bucket.

TPWD stocks lakes in our state parks as well as some public lakes as part of the Neighborhood Fishin’ program. The lake at Eisenhower Park is an example of the Neighborhood program in action.

For a schedule of stocking activity in your area, go to the TPWD site at http://www.tpwd.state.tx.us/fishboat/fish/management/stocking/.
