peanut butter bars – campground cooking

Our last roundup was real winner. We had a great time with golf cart tours of the entire trail system because we bribed our Park Host with this recipe. Several other people have asked for it, so here it is.

recipe: peanut butter bars

Summary: Great potluck or campfire dessert

  • 1 cup soft margarine
  • 1 cup peanut butter
  • 1 1/2 cups sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 tsp vanilla extract
  • 1 tsp almond extract (optional) 1 cup flour

  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Grease and flour a 9 X 13 pan.
  2. Melt margarine and peanut butter together, using a hot water bath to avoid burning.
  3. Add remaining ingredients and stir until smooth. Pour into the treated pan and bake for 25 minutes.
  4. Let cool and cut into squares. Great with Cool Whip or ice cream
  5. We’ve tried this one with the dutch oven and it works well. Just be sure to monitor your coals for consistent heat.
